Sharps Containers

The 5.5 Litre (1.59 U.S. gallon) container 

This container is yellow with a red biohazard symbol and is available with four different lids: 

1) a snap lid 
2) a gasket lid 
3) a red half-moon flip-top lid  [BIO-PKG38]
4) a 7.6 cm (3 inch) plug lid. 

1. The snap on lid has no opening in it and no gasket. This lid is used when there is little or no fluid being placed in the container. 

2. The gasket lid is the same as the snap lid except that it has a gasket and would be used where fluid is placed in the container. 

3. The red half-moon flip-top lid is a snap lid with the red half-moon flip top inserted into the middle of it similar to the one described for the 1 liter (0.26 gallon) container.  [BIO-PKG38]

4. The 7.6 cm (3 inch) plug lid is also a snap lid, but it has a 7.6 cm (3 inch) red plug with a tab on it inserted in the middle of the lid. The 7.6 cm (3 inch) plug can be removed by pulling on the tab. This allows the user to insert objects up to 7.6 cm (3 inches) in diameter into the container without removing the snap lid.
